WHO Will Classify Play Game Addiction So 'Mental Disorder'

The World Health Organization (WHO) will classify the addiction to playing games as a mental health disorder by 2018. WHO mentions it in a document that is still in draft form in beta stage. There are three characteristics in the draft which are included in the game addiction classification.

Three characteristics that among them can not control the habits of playing games, prioritizing games above other interests and do not stop playing games despite realizing the negative impact. WHO also explains that not all games have a negative impact on the players' mental health or are addictive.

A person can be categorized as a gaming disorder if the opiate of the game is very disturbing interpersonal relationships and other areas of life, such as school or work. Those who fall into this category apply to those who continue to play games on a smartphone or sit in front of a PC monitor for hours.

However, this is still a debate within the psychological community. The classification of game addiction to mental disorders still needs to require in-depth research. Because there are some games that actually reduce stress, improve the ability to solve problems and improve physical coordination.
