Motorcycles today are one of the most
widely used transportation vehicles in the world. From year to year,
motorcycles continue to penetrate the development both in terms of form and
technology used. In history there are some figures who are recognized as the
inventors of motorcycles. But note that the first form of motorcycle was first
introduced in Europe around the 19th century.
History of Motorcycles, From Sylvester Howard Rover, Ernest Michaux, Lucius Copeland To Gottlieb Daimler
Steam-Powered Motorcycles Sylvester H.
RoperRegarding the history of motorcycle invention, At first an American man
named Sylvester Howard Roper found a two-cylinder engine that uses steam power
and install it on the bike.
These are considered to be the
emergence of bicycles that use the world's first machine. He also invented a
steam engined car, but Roper himself was killed when he rode his first
steam-powered motorcycle.
In another place in France, a man
named Ernest Michaux tried to install a steam engine into his bicycle. The
machine was made by his father who worked as a blacksmith. The machine is
fueled by alcohol and uses a twin drive belt to drive the front wheel of the
bike.
A few years later in 1881, American
Lucius Copeland made a smaller boiler and stuck to his bicycle. This steam
boiler can move the rear wheel of the bike. The speed produced on his bicycle
was incredible when it reached about 19 kilometers per hour. Finally in 1887,
Copeland created a manufacturing company that built a motorcycle.
Gottlieb Daimler and World's First Gasoline Fueled Motorcycle.
After that the next 10 years, various
motorcycle designs are emerging. But then motorcycling findings Gottlieb
Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach of Germany widely recognized the world as the first
Motorcycles in the world.
Daimler-made motorcycles use a gasoline-based internal combustion engine made in 1885 called Petroleum Reitwagon. Gottlieb Daimler also recognized the world as the inventor of a motorcycle.
Gottlieb Daimler's motorcycle
invented Nicolaus Otto 's engine known as a 4 stroke engine in 1876.
After Nicolaus Otto completed his invention, Gottlieb Daimler, then Otto's
employee, developed it into a new machine and he created the first carburetor
in world.
Wilhelm Maybach then put the engine
and the carburetor on a Daimler bike and become a Motorcycle. Uniquely, Daimler
and Maybach Petroleum Reitwagon motorcycles have a pair of wheels in the middle
like a safety wheel and keep the bike upright apart from two wheels in front
and back. Gottlieb Daimelr is known as an outstanding innovator.
First Motorcycle Design Gotltieb Daimler
In addition to finding a car and also
a motorcycle and also creating a carburetor, he is also a pioneer of making a
commercial car arena he also created a machine for ships with gasoline.
His company later named Daimler-Benz a
leading automotive company later developed into a Mercedes-Benz that we know
today.
Since then, many emerging companies
that introduced a bike berpenggerak machine which became known as Motorcycles. Which
was widely known in Germany then to England and spread rapidly to America.
The Hildebrand & Wolfmüller
Company became the first company to set up a factory for the production of
motorcycle vehicles, then in America the company named Charles Metz first set
up a factory to manufacture motorcycles in the Waltham, Massachusetts region.
The Development of Motorcycles In America
In America itself there are many
motorcycle designers, but one of the most famous pioneers in this field is
William Harley and Artur and Walter Davidson sisters who later founded an
automotive company known as Harley-Davidson.
William Harley with the Davidson
brothers founded the company Harley-Davidson Motor Company in 1903. Motorcycles
made by them have a quality machine.
